Albert Lea Protein Processing Plant

Known as “The Land Between the Lakes” the city of Albert Lea is located at the Crossroads of Interstates 90 and 35 in Southern Minnesota, about 90 miles south of the Twin Cities.

Albert Lea is named after Albert Miller Lea, a topographer with the United States Dragoons, who surveyed southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, including the current site of Albert Lea. Captain Nathan Boone, a son of Daniel Boone, was the scout for Lea's unit. In 1895, Companies B, H, and I of the United States Dragoons, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Stephen W. Kearney, came through Freeborn County. One of the members of the expedition was Lieutenant Albert Miller Lea, a topographer. Lieutenant Lea sketched the outline of the lake that he named “Fox Lake.” Joseph Nicollet later renamed the lake, Lake Albert Lea. In 1855, a small settlement began on the northwest edge of the lake and the town became known as Albert Lea.

The community features a family-friendly environment, including activities both on and off the water – shopping, watersports, outdoor events, terrific dining and plenty of arts and entertainment for everyone! Cargill is a proud and notable partner in the Albert Lea community. The Cargill Business Operations and Supply Chain Albert Lea facility was established in 1968 and consists of 150,000 square feet of production and distribution facilities. Cargill employees contribute their time and financial resources to the community through programs such as Relay for Life, Special Olympics, SkillsUSA and United Way.
